Yaroslavl' is a city of approximately 600,000 people, which is located 160 miles northeast of Moscow on the Volga and Kotorosl rivers. It was founded in the early 11th century, making it one of the oldest cities in Russia, and its city center a UNESCO world heritage site. Among its notable tourist destinations are the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour (Спа́со-Преображе́нский монасты́рь), the St. John the Baptist Church (Це́рковь Иоа́нна Предте́чи) and the recently rebuilt Assumption Cathedral (Успе́нский собо́р).
